Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the Korean traditional home care for Children in comparison with the 1 st study carried out in Kyung Ki -Do.
The sample consisted of 180 housewives living in 7-Myons of 4-Koons in Kyung Sang Book -Do chosen by convenience.
The subjects were interviewed in their home using a questionnaire from July 28 to August 20, 1984.
The results are as follows :
1 . As a treatment for their ill Child, more than 91.7 % depended on folk remedial therapy.
2. The most frequently used folk remedial therapy was for indigestion ( 98.3 % ), and the least was for helminth problems (55.0 %).
3 . Folk remedies applied to gastro- intestinal problems, musculo- skeletal or dental problems were mostly relevant to the principles of oriental medicine or modern scientific medicine. It was similar to the result of 1st study. However, more plants were used in Kyung Sang Book- Do than Kyung Ki -Do.
4. Compared with 1st study, folk remedies applied to maladaptive manifestations, Anemia, convulsion, helminth problems, poisoning and accident turned out similar result. Except heminth problems, such folk remedies as psychological approach and dietary regimen were similar to oriental medicine or modern scientific medicine.
Based on the above findings, the following suggestions are made
1 . Most of folk remedies turned out similar to the result of 1st study and relevant to the principles of oriental medicine or modern scientific medicine. It is desirable to make profound study of folk remedies and apply them to the community health care service program
2. It is-necessary to continue the follow-up investigation and widen the sample area to the nation-wide range.
